South Coast Disappointment
The Spireites campaign got off to a disappointing start at Plainmoor with an opening day defeat and even more poignant no goals which stretches the run now to 9hrs 18mins. The Spireites without leading scorer in the last two seasons Jack Lester played a more conservative one upfront that being Drew Talbot with Darren Currie behind. New loan signing Donal Mcdermott started on the left hand side.
Early chances were few and far between but the Spireites were comfortable. However it was Torqauy who took the lead on 15 minutes when Danny Stevens crossed from the left and it was the Gulls new signing Scott Rendell who slotted home past a helpless Crossley.
The Spireites in the second half came out in more determined fashion and Mcdermott was causing a few problems on the wing. Again though a corss came in and the Spireites were two down, it was Wayne Carlisle with the pinpoint a nod back by Sills and there was Lee Mansell to nod home on the line.
The Spireites then proceeded to have their best period of the match where it was left to Scott Bevan to save on three occassions from Mcdermott,Bowery & Gritton
Performance wise it was ok, but again sloppy defending cost us twice. New era for the Spireites but the same old problems. Positive note Donal Mcdermott a very exciting prospect I think we may need him for longer.
