Simpson at the treble

Robbie Simpson hit a hat-trick in 21 minutes as Oldham cruised to a 5-2 win against lowly Chesterfield.

The Latics needed just three minutes to go in front, with Chesterfield losing possession cheaply and Kieran Lee slamming into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Simpson opened his account nine minutes later, sweeping inside the far post from 10 yards after a fine run by left-back Paul Black.

And the on-loan Huddersfield striker hit a stunner on 17 minutes when he hammered a free-kick from the edge of the box which bent into the top corner.

Chesterfield snatched a lifeline on the half-hour through Craig Westcarr's close-range header from a Drew Talbot cross, but their shellshocked defence gifted Simpson his third goal with a series of errors which saw him bundle past keeper Ole Soderberg and find an empty net.

Simpson turned provider on 57 minutes as his set piece was headed in from eight yards by Shefki Kuqi.

Chesterfield's Leon Clarke had the final word by sliding in to finish Topa Obadeyi's cross.
