Chesterfield face a tricky replay at non-league Droylsden after their second round tie ended in controversy for a second time.

After the first meeting between the clubs was abandoned because of fog ten days ago, the rematch at Saltergate boiled over when Jack Lester scored a goal that enraged the visitors.

Droylsden had put the ball out of play to allow Carl Lamb to receive treatment in the 78th minute, but when Chesterfield took the throw in, Lester fired the ball over goalkeeper Craig Mawson and into the net.

The Blue Square North team were furious and there were angry scenes on the touchline, but referee Andy Woolmer had no alternative but to award the goal.

But Chesterfield then allowed Droylsden to walk the ball unchallenged from the kick-off with Steve Halford equalising.

It was only what the visitors deserved after another spirited display following on from their performance in the first game.

They had led 1-0 before the fog closed in, but this time it was Chesterfield who took the lead in the 31st minute when Jamie Ward latched onto a long clearance by goalkeeper Trevor Carson to score his 13th of the season.

But Droylsden hit back when Alex Brown glanced a header past Carson from a cross by Steven Beck in the 50th minute and Chesterfield were becoming increasingly anxious as they failed to break down the non-league side.

But after the drama that followed Lester's unsporting strike, Chesterfield should have won the game.

First Lloyd Kerry sliced a shot just wide from only 12 yards and then Lester sent Ward clear in the 89th minute, but this time his low drive cannoned back off the body of Mawson and the teams will meet again at Droylsden next Tuesday.
