Wycombe missed a chance to haul themselves back into the frantic scrap for Second Division safety when they let a two-goal lead slip in the last 15 minutes.
A point leaves Tony Adams’ team adrift at the bottom while Chesterfield took advantage of other teams around them losing.
A draw would have been the least the home side would have expected before the match, but trailing 2-0 up until the 75th minute, this was a good result.
Chesterfield Manager Roy McFarland said; "It was a very hard earned point and come the end of the season it could prove to be a very important one." Wycombe Manager Tony Adams admitted he was disappointed that his team failed to claim their first away win since March and said; "Perhaps we've lost the habit of winning, a confident side would have closed the game out at 2-0." Wycombe started nervously, but the best chances fell to Nathan Tyson and he made one count in the eighth minute when awful defending allowed him to finish from eight yards out.
Glynn Hurst wasted a good chance to equalise before half-time but the visitors scored again seven minutes into the second half.
A superb free-kick from Darren Currie allowed Stuart Nethercott to head in from just outside the six-yard box. But the introduction of David Reeves turned the match.
The veteran striker almost scored with his first touch and he set-up a chance which Hurst headed against a bar minutes later.
But the goal Chesterfield had threatened to score came in the 75th minute when Brandon was left unmarked and his shot found the bottom left-hand corner of the Wycombe net via the hand of keeper Scott Bevan.
Wycombe's nerves were now showing and it needed a great save from Bevan to keep out a 20-yard strike from Brandon in the 82nd minute.
But when the corner came in, Ian Evatt headed into the top right hand corner and Chesterfield could have won the match five minutes later.
A cross from the right was headed down into the path of the unmarked Reed, but from eight yards out, the ball struck his knee and he failed to make contact with his right foot and the chance of glory slipped away.
