Swindon showed they could be a force in the second division this season when they recorded their second victory by condemning Chesterfield to a second straight defeat.

The game was virtually decided by half time when Swindon led 3-0 and although Chesterfield made a fight of it after the break, the Robins held on.

The difference between the sides was the pace and strength of the Swindon forward line who ran riot in the first half.

Frenchman Eric Sabin created the opening two goals for Danny Invincibile, the Australian midfielder made on the third for Sabin.

Invincibile opened the scoring in the 12th minute after a Sam Parkin shot was blocked on the line and his second came six minutes before the break when Sabin burst through the middle of the home defence.

Invincibile then crossed from the right for Sabin to head in from eight yards and although Glynn Hurst pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, Parkin scored again within two minutes.

Hurst got his second after a free-kick came back of the crossbar to give Chesterfield some reward for a much improved second-half performance, but Swindon were always in control.

Swindon manager Andy King said afterwards: "We are capable of beating teams, now we have to learn how to win games because at 3-0 this one should have been over."

Chesterfield assistant manager Lee Richardson added: "We cannot afford to be as generous to the opposition and expect to get very much out of a match."
