Bury clinched promotion to League One after a thrilling 3-2 victory which denied Chesterfield the League Two title and blew top spot wide open.
Top scorer Ryan Lowe picked the perfect moment to smash home his 26th goal of the season, converting a dramatic 87th-minute winner to deflate Chesterfield, whose promotion was confirmed on Friday.
The two teams traded goals with Tom Lees and David Worrall twice putting Bury ahead only for Craig Davies and Jack Lester to peg them back before Lowe had the final word.
Bury were the sharper side from the start and went ahead in the 12th minute when Ben Futcher headed a corner back across goal and Lees finished with a downward header.
The Spireites created little but it was different in the second half with Davies levelling six minutes after the interval with a low shot through a crowded area after Lester had been tackled.
The visitors were back in front in the 56th minute when Lowe had a shot blocked and Worrall drove the ball into the bottom left corner.
Lester had looked dangerous from the restart and he equalised in the 63rd minute with a clever turn and low shot past the right hand of Cameron Belford.
But Bury regained the lead and sent the visiting fans into raptures three minutes from time when Chesterfield failed to deal with a corner and Lowe placed a shot inside the right post from eight yards.
