County climb continues
Notts County's rise up the table continued with a 3-1 at Chesterfield, who crashed to a fourth consecutive league defeat.
First-half goals from Ben Burgess and Alan Judge put County in control and although Craig Westcarr pulled one back against his former club, an unlucky own goal from Drew Talbot settled it.
County, roared on by 2,000 fans, swarmed all over Chesterfield from the start and home goalkeeper Greg Fleming denied Neal Bishop and Krystian Pearce inside the first two minutes, but Burgess headed home the opener from Jeff Hughes's cross in the 21st minute.
Chesterfield should have equalised in the 32nd minute when a low cross was deflected to Alex Mendy, but he fired over from 15 yards and seven minutes later Burgess sent Judge clear and the latter rolled the ball under Fleming for the second goal.
Westcarr hauled Chesterfield back in it when he bundled Jonathan Grounds's cross in at the back post in the 52nd minute.
County had to withstand sustained pressure for the first time in the game, but weathered the storm and sealed victory two minutes from time when Lee Hughes crossed and Sam Sodje's shot came back off Fleming and went in off Talbot.
