Huddersfield's frustrating run continued when they failed to win for the ninth game in a row on a day of missed chances at Saltergate.
Chesterfield dominated and had the openings to punish Huddersfield but could not put the ball away.
Substitute Wayne Allison headed over from eight yards near the end and defender Aaron Downes shot straight at keeper Matt Glennon early in the second half.
Huddersfield skipper Andy Booth did find the net with a second-half header but the flag had already gone up for a foul by midfielder Danny Schofield.
But a victory would have flattered the visitors who were forced to defend desperately at times as Chesterfield pushed them back.
David Mirfin was superb in the centre of a back four which tackled hard and headed a stream of testing crosses away, but Chesterfield created enough openings to have taken all three points.
Mark Allott sent a shot from 15 yards into the massed ranks of Huddersfield fans in the 18th minute and Kevan Hurst also skied a shot over the bar five minutes later.
Huddersfield's midfield came out second best for much of the game and this only increased the pressure on the defence and cut the supply lines to the strikers.
Booth and Gary Taylor-Fletcher mostly had to forage for scraps but they did combine in the 56th minute to open up the home defence.
Taylor-Fletcher played a one-two with Michael Collins before slipping a pass into the feet of Booth but the striker over-ran the ball.
After that, it was mostly Chesterfield with Hurst and Paul Hall finding space on both flanks to send in a stream of crosses.
But it was a long-range effort from Alex Bailey in the 76th minute that almost broke Huddersfield's resistance and Glennon did well to keep out the rising drive from the right-hand edge of the penalty area.
Chesterfield kept probing but Huddersfield stood firm, although their defence should have been breached six minutes from the end.
Once again it was a cross, this time from Hall, which created the danger but Allison headed over the bar from a position in which he is normally so deadly.
