Spireites woe continues
Chesterfield saw their winless run in npower League One extend to 16 games following a 2-0 defeat to Exeter.
The visitors had the better of a low-key opening but Chesterfield's threat grew as the game wore on and Artur Krysiak saved well from Neal Trotman and Jack Lester.
A dangerous run by Alex Mendy caused problems before Lester saw a goal-bound shot deflected wide.
After the interval, Exeter looked most likely to break the deadlock with Richard Duffy having a header saved by Tommy Lee.
Daniel Nardiello's run split the home defence and Guillem Bauza seemed certain to score until substitute Derek Niven flung his body in the way to make a last-ditch intervention.
Seven minutes later Chesterfield were handed a great chance to go ahead when Lester was brought down by Duffy as he twisted and turned inside the area.
Despite Exeter protests, Chesterfield were awarded a penalty but Danny Whitaker's tamely-struck spot kick was saved by Krysiak.
Chesterfield were made to pay in the 78th minute when James Dunne crossed from the right for Richard Logan to power home a close-range header.
Ten minutes later Liam Sercombe added a second goal with a well-struck low shot from the edge of the penalty area.
