Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland saw his side drop two valuable points as they edged closer to Division Two's relegation trap door.
McFarland saw his side take a two-goal lead and facing ten men, before Bournemouth hit back with two second-half goals in 90 seconds to boost their play-off hopes.
McFarland said: "We contained them for long periods of the second half, but they came on strongly and scored two goals in quick succession.
"Both sides could have won the game and it we had taken one of many of our chances we could have won quite easily.
"But all in all it would have been a travesty if we had lost the game." The Spireites made most of the early running and were rewarded for their efforts on 21 minutes when Bournemouth failed to clear a corner.
The ball fell kindly to midfield Mark Allott and he shot home from 20 yards to give the visitors a deserved lead.
And the visitors afternoon got better six minutes later when striker Marvin Robinson caused havoc in the Bournemouth box and strike partner Mark De Bolla knocked home a rebound from six yards to double the lead.
Chesterfield should have gone further ahead just before the break when Robinson crossed for De Bolla only for the striker to fire over from six yards when unmarked.
After the break Bournemouth came out in determined fashion but the visitors rearguard held firm until a mad two minutes cost them dear.
On 77 minutes substitute Wade Elliott saw his deep cross from the right headed in by striker James Hayter, before 90 seconds later the home side scraped an undeserved equaliser.
This time Hayter turned provider as his right-wing cross found Derek Holmes to tap into the empty net for an equaliser.
Both sides went in search of a winner and Chesterfield sub Caleb Folan hit the bar with a minute remaining before Bournemouth midfielder Claus Jorgensen shot inches wide from 25 yards out.
Bournemouth manager Sean O'Driscoll had mixed emotions about his team's performance.
He said: "I do not know whether I am pleased with a point or disappointed that we dropped two.
"When we went down to ten men after using all our substitutes and getting an injury it somehow spurred us on."
