Chesterfield striker Jamie Ward could be out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury picked up during a livewire performance that lifted the gloom at Saltergate.

The 20 year old, making his full home debut against Port Vale on Saturday, scored his first ever goal for his new club since signing from Torquay United last month.

Ward's spectacular second half effort from the edge of the area set the Spireites on their way to a 3 nil victory over the Potteries side. Minutes later he was limping off the field.

Jamie Ward said: "I was delighted to get on the scoresheet to help us on the way to an important victory but gutted that I picked up this injury only a couple of minutes later."

Chesterfield assistant manager Lee Richardson said: "Football can be cruel at times and Jamie has experienced the highs and lows of football within the space of a few minutes. Although it is disappointment this happens in football and we just have to get on with it."
