It should have been six points out of six. Against the MK Dons we had enough chances to kill off two sides never mind one. Only a dodgy penalty apart kept us from three points, we played five in midfield with Allott and Smith supporting Allison upfront and to be fair it worked as chance after chance went begging until captain Ian Evatt knocked one in at the end . Steve Blatherwick was injured so Aaron Downes replaced him to partner Evatt at the centre half position. Out went Stallard and Folan to be replaced with Smith and Allison and we went 4-5-1 for the first time this season , Smith caused MK Dons some problems and Downes and Evatt along with Mark Allott had chances that went begging . We deserved more than a point for that one.
So to Barnsley yesterday the Referee ruined a good day a premiership official who didn’t have a clue about challenges that happen in the lower leagues several times he couldn’t handle the relative minor pressure. So to the game, Barnsley came and started well for the first ten minutes however the Spireites had the better chances, Aaron Downes in for the unwell Ian Evatt hesitated and presented Boulding with a ball that even I could score from a few minutes later it was two when once again Downes decided to pass it to Boulding and not somebody in a Blue Shirt and said Barnsley striker smashed into the bottom corner, how we were 2-0 down I’ll never know at this point I made it clear that Barnsley had a habit of squandering leads a la Stockport and Oldham so half time came and I was in shock more than disappointment. Second Half and It was all us apart from glaring misses from sub Conlon and Boulding we deserved a share of the spoils, Folan scored his now customary subs goal and Nicholson rifled in free kick from the left hand side that won goal of the day on Sky Sports News, maybe the ref was generous with the free kick decision but he shouldn’t have shoved Allison simple as!
That Shane Nicholson free kick I reckon was the first scored by a Spireite player since Jamie Burt scored a stunning free kick in 2002 do we practice dead ball situations such as these?
Only 5985 turned up to Saltergate rather disappointing I thought but when your not playing well nobody wants to watch you unless your called Newcastle!
