CHESTER CITY last night turned down a bid of £15,000 from fellow Coca-Cola League Two club Chesterfield for midfielder Kevin Ellison.

The Spireites, who have just sold their leading scorer Jamie Ward to Championship outfit Sheffield United for £400,000, contacted City yesterday morning, but after talks between Chester's management and directors, the offer was rebuffed.

City's chief executive Bob Gray said: "Obviously Chesterfield were impressed by Kevin when we played them at the Deva Stadium last weekend, but the offer they tabled was far below our valuation of the player.

"Chesterfield weren't the only club to inquire about Kevin's availability, Darlington and Bradford City also contacted us, but Chesterfield were the only club to make a firm offer."
