Torquay won automatic promotion to League One and history shows that United usually go straight back down the following season. Knowing this, the fans expected some new signings in pre-season, however no new players came to Plainmoor but we lost our best player David Graham to Wigan for £215,000.
The season started with a 1-1 draw at West Country rivals Bristol City but from then on the season went downhill and there we were in our rightful position in the bottom four until Leon Constantine arrived on loan. He played four league games, United winning three and drawing one. Unfortunately the United board were unwilling to pay £100,000 for his services and he returned to Peterborough. When he went back they won two on the bounce.
Peterborough finally succumbed to an offer of £75k plus extras and he was finally a Gull. He was unable to stop us losing our third game on the bounce against Barnsley last weekend but given a week to train with the rest of the team it is hoped that he will bring the club back to winning ways with a win at Chesterfield this weekend.
United lie just in the relegation zone, certain fans are already expecting a relegation season, but a lot have renewed hope following the purchase of Constantine and the Chairman has pledged to survive this season and help the club grow. staying up would be more of a success than promotion last season.
