The Sunday Review

Yesterday was awful we never had enough quality to break down a stubborn Brighton defence. If Roy Mac was thinking that the weather contributed to our downfall then sadly that's the lamest of lame excuses, the general quality in the side was tested yesterday and was found wanting.

Defensively we relied upon that one prone error to cost in those circumstances as in the Basingstoke game we weren't up for the fight and that's worrying. Brighton used not their lack of skill to beat us, they just bullied us into performing to their level, Guy Butters who looks to have had his best days played as if he was once Bobby Moore and the thing is we allowed him to do that, Folan was put up against the impressive Lynch at Centre Half and Shaw played behind Folan so Butters had in effect nothing to do other than get in the way of anything breaking through.

Folan's up against the impressive David Mirfin next week fingers crossed the Huddersfield defence doesn't have as much in it as it did at Saltergate in December.

As for a performance like that Folan doesn't look like he could cut the mustard at a higher level, but put him up against smaller defences and he's the bully so we know he can do it, Premiership scouts must be tearing their hair out, Paul Jewell was at the match yesterday as his bid for Nathan Ellington goes pear-shaped is Caleb Folan the replacement?

Our loped sided defence again caused ourselves more problems than Brighton gave us, but Mac's insistence to play it gives me worries, he could have played a natural left sided defender in Shane Nicholson but has chose to loan him out for the time being we beg's a question that Shinner is being forced out of the club and when his loan has expired he will have his contract paid up, shame really cause for balance purposes it would have been ideal to keep him, but at this club one in one out I suppose.
