The Sunday Review

What a contrast to Wednesday Night! Pressing attacking football concentrated in the opposition's half, no not Oldham…us…yes we finally dominated a game at home albeit a little nerves when Oldham happened to pounce upon an error by the referee by scoring a goal closer to the third minute of injury time in the first half when he announced a mere One!

Hurst our mercurial loan signing from the red deedars showed exactly what quality he has by putting in a stunning first and second half performance almost capped by a fine solo effort in the latter stages of the game. That along with another few scorned chances was the differince as really we could have won by three or fours goals to the one.

Another outstanding performer on the day was Aaron Downes, named as Spireites World man of the match and really should have got the sponsors too, Downes put in a performance to which makes him an obvious transfer target come the January Sales, Downes and Folan are looking equally sellable assets to which we must ensure a sell on clause or appearance is vital for the stability of Chesterfield Football Club.

Just a quick word regarding Oldham they were more impressive and a better footballing side than when we last played them but we beat them tactically with Roy dropping Shaw deeper and allowing Larkin with a free role upfront and he helped his cause by bagging two goals for himself.

4 points from a possible six and five games now unbeaten looks like things are getting back on track on the pitch, however it's not so bright off it. Phil Tooley the outstanding CFSS Chairman has handed in his resignation due to other commitments, this is alarming to say the least with the new ground situation and the joint workable board situation ongoing we needed a stable committee and Phil's statement on the official site has made the doubters….well doubt. It is rumoured that John Croot could be the next potential candidate for the CFSS Leadership but this will take time as the AGM hasn't been announced yet, so we await with baited breath to what will appear.

Again a disappointing crowd of just over 4000 with 983 making the trip along the M62/M1, however an impressive performance by the lads here will have the crowds flocking back will it?

Cross from Hurst goal from Larkin remember?
