The Sunday Review

An excellent week, with great wins and great news it can get better though. Chesterfield's victory Walsall was superb, this win over twice play off contenders Hartlepool was excellent.
It started so brightly with Kevan Hurst hitting the post after 14 seconds, the spireites putting the pools midfield under enormous pressure. It was against the run of play that Michael Proctor scored with a glancing header. Niven was busy putting in a few shots and generally breaking up play, Mark Allott had a long range effort going into the very vocal Kopites at the end of the first half.

Second Half begins and a superb individual effort from Colin Larkin twisting and turning and hitting a low shot in off the far post. Chesterfield then upped the tempo even further although Proctor nearly scored again for the visitors but missed with an open goal gaping. A long range effort from Derek Niven took the Spireites into a 2-1 lead and by now there was only going to be one winner. Paul Hall cut inside from the right and curled a shot into the far post for his third of the season and it was game over.

I was a little disappointed from Hartlepool after the record they had in recent times here, but you can't say that the Spireites did not deserve this it's now four wins in five games, three on the bounce and twelve goals scored in five games too. slowly we are picking up and bearing in mind this is without three of our regular back four.

The crowd was also alarming with just slightly over four thousand here with around five hundred from the North-East, with Sheffield Wednesday playing friday I thought that we might get a few extra fans. Maybe they have decided to watch Sheffield United storm away with the Championship.

It was good also to see Darren Brown disappear from society for a while although due to press restrictions he's been away since November last year. Things are picking up around Saltergate, maybe we will hear some news on the ground issue soon but let's not run before we can walk eh?
