The Sunday Review

It was a nice sunny spring day and two sides came out with vain hopes of the playoffs, by the final whistle I think everyone had agreed that both sides weren't good enough for the end of season lottery.
Both defences cancelled each other out in this end of season friendly and whilst some chances were there only the Spireites keeper Marton Fulop made the one real save of note.
It makes you wonder though what have Roy Macfarland and Lee Richardson done to make us such a boring outfit! well, they have made us solid for a start, the back four of Bailey, Evatt, Blatherwick and Nicholson have been immense, certainly one of these will win the Player of the Season award. We still have work to do though Roy and Lee, I mean we need a slight difference in midfield Niven is class as shown on saturday, Allot plays well at right midfield but I reckon McMaster would be better there and when fit Adam Smith will start on the left.
Something which has troubled us all season is the best front two pairings, my own personal choice would be the Chief and Debolla with Caleb Folan and N'Toya on the bench itching to come on.

Saturday's game saw Debolla and Allison start with McMaster behind the front two but it didn't work, why didn't it work? well I reckon that the answer starts and finishes with Mark Hudson. Hudson won't be here next season so why are we playing him? At this moment in time he is our playmaker someone with the vision to make a defence splitting pass, only this is something which he is not doing and something which has been lacking all season. If and their is a strong rumour going round that Sammy Clingan will be back surely Hudson will find a club in the North East he so strongly fancies then we will be a much better side next season. Hudson on saturday went around as if he was thinking about his summer holidays well Mark maybe you are but you won't be flying from East Midlands that's for sure!

Two strong defences came up against each other and both won on saturday it was that type of game. Bradford had a dangerous looking forward line with Dean Windass and Andy Cooke and a defence with Darren Holloway and David Weatherall, I had them down for relegation this season but that was dur to the fact that they didn't have any players at the start of the season so what do I know.

What I do know is that we need to start scoring goals this season if we are to challenge for the play offs next season. I mean you can't have a left back as Top Scorer can you?

City were a strong side.
