It was a Jamie Mcmaster inspired performance that lifted the Spireites that much closer to life in League One again for next season. By my assumption we require a further two points to see us safe. Ok people may say that 50 points is enough already but we got 51 last season so I say 52 is enough and then it shows we have improved on last year.
As for Huddersfield they were OK I thought, around the mid-table is about right for them I guess they will be disappointed if they don't make the play-offs next year. Impressive players for them were Nathan Clarke and the busy ex-Spireite Chris Brandon, typically though Brandon picked up a yellow card as the crowd and Shane Nicholson got to him. If he had put that chance away in the second minute then who knows.
The First Half was a kind of even stevens affair with Huddersfield going pretty close by hitting the bar and Alan O'Hare for the Spireites missing a glorious chance by fluffing his chance of a goal.
Onto the second half and It was the Blues who upped the tempo, Mark Debolla floated a delightful ball across the pitch to Jamie Mcmaster who volleyed it into the net only for the Linesman to blow for offside. As I was stood on the Kop it was difficult to say on or off. The Referee did blow pretty quickly though.
A few moments later and it was the old Debolla/Mcmaster trick again this time the Aussie Wizard knocked the ball past Clarke the younger and he tripped McMaster, Penalty! Now I have disagree with the Ref here a straight Red for the young lad was very Harsh and I have some sympathy with the lad. Anyway Shane Nicholson slotted the penalty away and it was game on.
Now McMaster was showing us his skills, a little Ronaldinho type flick just went over the bar. Even Allott was trying his luck from outside the box. Derek Niven even had a one on one chance with the Keeper but he showed his unselfish attitude and tried to square it to Debollabut some Terriers defenders had come back to cover. McMaster then teased Huddersfield defender David Mirfin with a few step overs, Mirfin's response was to trip him up, Penalty No 2. Shane Nicholson stepped up and scored his second goal of the game and his seventh of the season (all from set plays six from the spot). Almost immediatley Huddersfield pulled a goal back through the aforementioned Mirfin and the pressure was on us again. Now Sodje the Huddersfield Centre-Half had come on to replace the dismissed Clarke, he recieved a Yellow for tackling Niven and then by the line he tripped Gareth Davies and it was a second yellow for the Terriers. Then the game was won for the Spireites and it was three points for us.
This game was all about Jamie McMaster or was it? I thought the side as a whole played well enough to obtain the points although Alan O'Hare as a left winger hmm I'm not sure. Mark Allott and Derek Niven were superb in the middle of the park and Debolla was superb with McMaster as his foil. Also a word about Marton Fulop who was brought in at the last minute as Muggs has got an injury. He was ok, he flapped at a cross at one point but other than that he played OK.
I'm glad we have fifty points we just need a few more for the Play-Offs......yeah right.
