The Sunday Review

It wasn’t a great game, more a match of the midfield in tough, battling windy conditions. If we had slightly better of the second half then Doncaster were dominant in the first.

The Wind played havoc in the opening period with Town playing with the elements and attempting to attack the Rovers rearguard.

It didn’t go to plan though with Donny playing the more offensive football, time and time again the wingers broke and O’Hare and Bailey were under immense pressure with the ball flashing across the goal on numerous occasions.

The only attempt we had came from a Shane Nicholson free kick which Ian Evatt flashed over the bar under pressure from a Rovers defender.

So to the second half and the wind was really cutting in and as my hat began to get lower over my face. What happened in the second half was strange though because Rovers started as they finished attacking the full backs, but the Spireites had made a tactical change with Nicholson coming back to full back and helping O’Hare out.

Both sides were still trying to find out about each other and this tactic nullified the game somewhat. The Spireites tried to break down the defensive wall of Rovers but to no effect and likewise with Rovers they were not getting any change from us.

Then the break,Tcham N’toya was driven wide by a Rovers player and then squeezed his shot across Warrington in the Donny goal, cue mass celebration from the Spireites in the Rossington End and thank you very much as the weather was getting worse.

As regards to the Spireites performance we didn’t play well, very scrappy, but you have to say that our defence was superb. Ian Evatt, Alan O’Hare, Aaron Downes (fresh from touring with the Australian U21’s) Shane Nicholson and Alex Bailey were excellent. I would mention Carl Muggleton, but the only thing he did was to punch away a Rover’s attack in the final seconds after Chesterfield had scored.

To review this game and to make it sound attractive would be an insult to people’s intelligence it wasn’t the best but we have got three points and that’s all that matters. Tcham celebrated his seventh goal of the season and hid first since October against Stockport and his first away from home.

Overall three points thank you and good night! Bring on the Wednesday and the Spireites’s play off push carry’s on, hmm I don’t think so, just 52 points will do for me for now.
