PLANNING APPLICATION SUBMITTED
Wilson Bowden Developments has announced that a formal planning application, which sets out the proposals for the regeneration of the former Demaglass site at Whittington Moor, Chesterfield, with a much needed new stadium for the Spireites, has been submitted to Chesterfield Borough Council.
The plans also include a new Tesco Extra superstore, and business premises, which will occupy the rest of the 22 acre site on the old A61 Sheffield Road.
Chesterfield FC chairman Barrie Hubbard said: "I am delighted that we have now reached this key stage but the real milestone will be when the plans are approved by the Borough Council.
He added: "The club is still in talks with potential majority shareholders who have all expressed an interest in taking over the club and progressing the new stadium development."

PLANNING APPLICATION SUBMITTED FOR THE REGENERATION OF THE FORMER DEMAGLASS SITE
A formal planning application detailing proposals to transform the former Demaglass site has been submitted to Chesterfield Borough Council.
The proposals for the redevelopment of the 22 acre site with a new football stadium for Chesterfield Football Club and new retail and business premises were put on display in February at a public exhibition held by development partners; Wilson Bowden Developments, Tesco and Chesterfield Football Club.
Since the exhibition further design work has been carried out on the development plans, which aims to address concerns expressed over parking on matchdays at Chesterfield Football Club, and the wider travel and transport issues.
Some of the solutions presented in the amended proposals include shuttlebus services to and from the new stadium and a new lay-by for drop off purposes, formal travel plans will also be put in to effect providing enhanced pedestrian crossing facilities and provision for cyclists as well as utlising the services of existing travel and transport providers in Chesterfield to ease the liklehood of traffic congestion on matchdays.
David Ward, Planning Director for Wilson Bowden Developments said;
"The partnership are delighted to be able to make a formal application for this important development in Chesterfield, we have been encouraged by the levels of positive response we received to the exhibition held at the Peter Webster Centre in February. Whilst there were some concerns surrounding matchday parking facilities we are confident that the amendments we have made to the plans in the past few weeks will overcome these concerns".
The plans as submitted to Chesterfield Borough Council will be available to view in the Town Hall once the application has been checked and registered.
Subject to approval of a full planning application, construction on site is proposed to start early 2009, completion of the Tesco store and the new stadium for Chesterfield Football Club is anticipated in winter 2009 with the mixed use element of the development scheme to be completed thereafter.
