Chesterfield FC has joined forces with a local school in support of the Sports Relief initiative, which is supported by the BBC.
Tupton Hall School, a specialist sports college in Chesterfield, is aiming to raise funds for the charity by taking over one whole end of the Saltergate ground for the Spireites league two game next month against promotion chasing MK Dons
Youngsters at the school aim to sell special cut-price tickets amongst fellow students and their families for the Cross Street end of the ground for the match on Monday 10 March 2008, kick-off 7.45pm, and if they fill it they could raise £1,000.
Sports Relief harnesses the power and passion of sport to change lives for the better. The money raised each year helps vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives both at home in the UK and across the world's poorest countries.
School organiser Tom Jenkins reckons the youngsters at the recently launched new sports college are up for the challenge as they are keen to do something sporty to raise money.
Tom Jenkins said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Chesterfield FC as it gives everyone the chance to see a live football match at a discounted price and still raise money for this worthwhile sports charity."
He added: "This is a new venture so we are not sure how much we will raise but whatever it is we will have the satisfaction of helping someone, somewhere, in need."
Chesterfield FC community director John Croot said: "This is the first time that I can recall a local school actually approaching us and we were pleased to be able to develop a fund-raising initiative where everyone is a winner."
The new sports college at Tupton is also organising a penalty shoot-out on site in the near future to raise further funds for Sports Relief.
The sale of the match tickets is being officially launched at the college next Tuesday 4 March 2008, at 1.00pm, with the help of Chesterfield players who will be in attendance.
The special discounted ticket prices are adults £11 (£1 of which goes to Sports Relief) and students £5.50 (of which 50p goes to Sports Relief).
