The Spireites have agreed to accept an offer from Barnsley for the transfer of striker Jamie Ward for a fee of £400,000.

The deal is subject to the Championship side agreeing personal terms with the player and after completion of a satisfactory medical. The fee includes extras, which include a sell-on clause.

The 22 year decided not to accept an improved deal with the Spireites after negotiations on a new contract faltered last month.

He is currently the club's leading goal-scorer having scored 16 goals this season.

Jamie Ward joined Chesterfield from Torquay United in January 2007 for a fee of £95,000 and they are entitled to a share from a 25% sell-on clause.

Meanwhile, a number of new recruits are being sought to strengthen the squad in key areas.
