An end-to-end contest at Plainmoor finished in a stalemate and the Spireites could be knocked off top spot by Bury, who face Wycombe next.
"We are still top of the table and it's up to others to catch us, Bury have got to play Wycombe and Wycombe have got their own reasons for wanting to do well in that one," said Sheridan.
The Chesterfield boss felt his side could have taken all three points from an open encounter against the Gulls.
"Torquay's keeper Scott Bevan was voted their man of the match and that says a lot to me, because we have forced him to make some very good saves.
"I'm feeling good because we have played a quality side, got a good away point and we may have had more."
