Sheridan salutes Spireites

Chesterfield manager John Sheridan praised his side after their first ever cup win over Walsall. The Spireites have enjoyed an unbeaten start to their League Two campaign and they took that form into Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash, where Dean Morgan grabbed a 33rd-minute winner after the Saddlers' Reuben Reid had levelled Jordan Bowery's opener. Sheridan said: "I think, attacking wise, we were a real threat all night. I said before the game that with the lads we had up front and their pace we could cause problems. "We had opportunities to score more goals and I think I have six strikers at the club who are all good enough to be in the side." Sheridan also praised the performance of skipper Dwayne Mattis who had to play as an emergency centre-half because of injuries and illness. He added: "I knew Dwayne had played there before and I thought he was excellent all night. He was very composed and he tries to make the game simple."
