The Sheffield Star Football Awards are here and it's your chance to vote for your favourite nominated player. Aaron Downes,Derek Niven & Phil Picken are up for the awards so get voting. Downes has also been nominated for the Young Player Award too.
Aaron Downes
Australian central defender who's stepped up to the plate this season and filled the space left by the now retired Steve Blatherwick. Strong, good in the air and with an eye for goal, his improvement has been rewarded with a couple of calls up to train with the Socceroos.
Derek Niven
His non-stop midfield dynamism has been an almost permanent fixture for Spireites this season. Whilst his passing may be a little below par, he more than makes up for that with athleticism and a huge heart.
Phil Picken
Diminutive full back, happy on the right or left, with a fiercely competitive approach. He has also deputised in midfield when needed, his tackling and distribution are excellent.
Young Player nomination
Aaron Downes (21)
Defender who's moved from fringe first teamer to first name on the teamsheet this season. Has been made skipper in Mark Allott's absence, the Australian has won a heap of Player of the Month awards this term.
