Niven in cancer scare

Chesterfield FC wishes to report that Derek Niven is being treated for testicular cancer.

On Thursday 20th November 2008, Derek Niven underwent surgery to remove a testicular tumour that he had recently discovered.

He has since been recovering at home and is awaiting test results this week.

Everyone at the club wishes Derek a full recovery and a speedy return to action for the Spireites.

The 24 year old midfielder joined Chesterfield in December 2003 from Bolton Wanderers and has so far made 199 league appearances for the Spireites and scored 14 league goals.

A further statement will be issued in due course.
