McFarland's Gone
ROY MCFARLAND LEAVES CHESTERFIELD
Manager Roy McFarland has left Chesterfield FC after nearly four years at the helm. The decision came after a run of league results, which sees the Spireites one point above the League One relegation zone with nine games of the season still to play.
Lee Richardson has been appointed caretaker manager until the end of the season. He will be working initially with the support of the existing backroom team, with additional assistance from Wayne Allison.
Chesterfield chairman Barrie Hubbard said: "During my long involvement with the club I have made a number of mistakes but appointing Roy McFarland as manager was not one of them. He has helped return respect from the football world to a club recovering from the shenanigans of a previous regime and we will always thank him for that."
On the new appointment, Barrie Hubbard said: "Lee Richardson has been a loyal assistant to Roy McFarland and has worked hard to achieve relevant qualifications and now deserves the chance to take over the reigns until the end of the season."
