Match Review v Cobblers

Last updated : 07 December 2006 By Paul Fisher

“Absolute tosh” was a phrase I heard coming out of Saltergate last night and correct it was too, if it wasn't for missed chances at a premium this must rank as worse than the Doncaster game this season, it's at least the worst at home we have seen all…..3341 our worst league crowd this season and what's the betting that there won't be many more on Saturday.

The game started as a damp windy squib and finished as a damp windy & cold squib, while both defences decided to play their best football of the season, the attacking aspect was as limp as the flags above the Town Hall.

Injury to Folan was a blow as was Shaw ineffectiveness along with Paul Hall in the first half and Kevan Hurst in the second, some of these players need to realise that there are two halves to matches.

I understand that Radio Sheffield were calling this the worst game ever, hmm and they have been to many United and Wednesday matches, not to mention Barnsley, Rotterdam & Donny games that haven't? beggers belief that. If that's the case then fair enough we don't need your custom anymore bye bye Radio Sheffield.

It was pleasing to see that former Captain Sean Dyche got a fantastic reception from our supporters even though he never made it onto the pitch he was interested enough to sign a few autographs for a few Junior Spireites.

Roy Mac said It was a poor game and we were very poor in the last third. We didn't use the ball well enough and our passing in the final third was poor which has cost us.

"But at least we've got a clean sheet and we've not had many of those this season. We created the two best chances in the game, they both fell to Colin Larkin but we didn't take them."

John Gorman said “ Saturday was a one-off and we were determined not to let that happen again," said Gorman. "This is a very hard place to come to and we are very pleased to take a well-earned point.

"It was an even game and we tried to play football and I thought that we had more chances in the second half. David Hunt had a goalbound shot which the keeper managed to save although I don't think he knew much about it.

"This is another good result for us and we've only had one loss away from home in the league this season. This gives us something to build on and if we keep this up we should be confident no matter where we go."
