Barnsley clinched their place in the championship with a dramatic penalty shoot out victory over Swansea City at the Millennium Stadium yesterday.

It was a game of ebbs and flows with Barnsley obtaining the early breakthrough with a volley from Paul Hayes, Swansea then replied with a spectacular overhead kick from ex-tyke Rory Fallon (the thorn in our side in recent times). Swansea then gained the lead with a speculative shot from Andy Robinson which Nick Colgan spilled into the net.
On an dreadful surface Barnsley piled forward and gained it with a Daniel Nardiello free kick to take the game into extra time. The extended periods brought no more goals and penalties it was, even stevens until Akinfenwa for the Swans stepped up blasted it over the bar after trying a John Aldridge stutter, Barnsley scored their penalties and it was up to Alan Tate to try to keep up ut his lame penalty was saved by earlier villan Colgan.

Another trip to Swansea, shame really for financial reasons only I wanted the tykes to stay down, but I'm glad for them really and they deserve it after being the best play off side.

Akinfenwa Missed pen.
