FOLAN MOVES TO THE PREMIERSHIP

Confirmation that 24 year old striker Caleb Folan has completed his transfer to Wigan Athletic for an undiclosed fee.

There has already been widespread media speculation about the transfer with a fee of £500,000 with a sell-on clause being reported.

The Spireites leading scorer, with 12 goals this season, joined Chesterfield in 2003 from his home town club Leeds United.

He played a major part in Chesterfield's memorable Carling Cup run earlier this season, scoring againstg a number of Premiership clubs.

Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland said: "Although we are disappointed to be losing Caleb we are delighted for him and really hope his career now takes off."

Roy McFarland added: "As a potential end-of-season Bosman transfer, Caleb was a top guy in signing a new contract earlier this season to ensure the club also benefited from any potential transfer, and this has now happened."

Caleb Folan said: "Every player dreams of being in the Premiership and, although it is difficult for me to leave Chesterfield because they have been so good to me, this is an amazing opportunity. I want to repay the faith that Paul Jewell has shown by proving that I am good enough to play in the Premiership."

Excellent piece of business for the Spireites, Folan who had stuggled to make it to be honest for the past three seasons this time has made it. For someone who your editor would have quite rightly god rid of on goals per games ratio at the end of last season this time has turned potential into a premiership move.

Folan had looked a little of the pace when he first arrived coupled with dreadful injuries which he seems to have got rid of he blossomed into this fantastic all action striker this season who has bagged 12 goals just after the new year.

Folan signed an extended deal in October when he could have quite easily left at the end of the season for nowt, so credit where credit is due and he has repayed back the club big style. Credit must also go to Caleb's dad Coleman who has been outstanding with his work for the club in recent times.

Thanks Caleb I hope you stay injury free and a success in the Premiership.
