Chesterfield V York at Proact Stadium - Match Preview

Richards worry for Spireites

Marc Richards is a doubt for Chesterfield as they host York on Boxing Day in the first of two successive home games.

The veteran striker was substituted moments before half-time during the 3-0 defeat at Southend on Friday night with a hamstring problem.

Although it was only a precautionary measure, manager Paul Cook is unlikely to risk his front man against the Minstermen unless fully fit.

The Spireites will continue to be without fellow striker Jack Lester who serves the second game of his three-match ban.

Cook will be able to call upon Luis Boa Morte again, after the Portuguese attacking midfielder showed no cause for concern on his return from a hamstring problem.

The npower League Two side saw their five-match unbeaten league run come to an abrupt halt at Roots Hall, and will be looking to bounce back in their mid-table clash against Gary Mills' side.

With Saturday's home match against top of the table Gillingham falling victim to the weather, York midfielder Patrick McLaughlin has been given an extra few days to try and get himself fit.

The 21-year-old was stretchered off during the Minstermen's recent 4-1 victory over Bristol Rovers with a bruised lung and kidney after a heavy collision. He would have struggled to feature against the Gills and remains a big doubt for the match with the Spireites.

Chris Doig (ankle) and Ashley Chambers (groin) are also battling to be fit. If the duo fail to make it then the likes of Alex Rodman, Tom Allan, Jon Challinor and David McGurk could all come into contention.

Striker Michael Coulson (knee) is out for the rest of the season while Oli Johnson will not play again this year after having an operation to deal with a groin problem.
