Torquay manager Paul Buckle hopes to sign Martin Gritton on loan from Chesterfield until the New Year. Gritton played more than 70 games for the Gulls between 2002 and 2004 but after spells further north at clubs like Grimsby, Mansfield and Macclesfield, the 32-year-old is hoping to succeed again on the south coast. Scottish-born Gritton has featured in two games for Torquay during pre-season and had an impressive impact off the bench in the 3-1 loss to QPR on Friday. Buckle told the Herald Express: "We are hoping to sign Martin until the January [transfer] window. "It will be a good signing for us because you could see what a good player he is and he really does suit the other players we have in the team, people like Elliot Benyon, Chris Zebroski and Danny Stevens. They can really benefit from what a big [target] man like Martin can bring to the team."
