Former International defender Kevin Austin has joined Chesterfield on a two year deal until June 2010 from League One champions Swansea City.
The former Lincoln City and Barnsley defender, who can play either centre half or full back, made 29 appearances for League One champions Swansea City last season and played his part as the Welsh club secured its place in the Championship.
The experienced 35 year old has been released from his current contract, which had one more year to run, as a mark of his loyalty and good service since he joined the Swans from Bristol Rovers in June 2004.
Lee Richardson commented: "I am really delighted that Kevin has agreed to join us as he is another player who will bring much-needed experience into the squad."
"He was highly thought of by Swansea City so I am really pleased they were able to agree to his release."
London born Austin was an international with Trinidad and Tobago, the highspot being a World Cup qualifier against Panama in 2000.
He has so far made a total of 499 appearances in all competitions since starting his professional career with Leyton Orient in 1992.
