A BIT OF WAFFLE

Last updated : 22 September 2004 By Paul Fisher

Since my last waffle we have seen a real mixed bag of results, defeat at Luton, a draw and generally poor showing against the Franchise, and a good win over Walsall. What does this tell us about our season’s prospects? To be honest, it’s not really done anything to help us predict how this season will pan out. Apart from our first half versus the Saddlers the performances haven’t been as good as earlier on this season. I’m not knocking the lads, if anything this is more reason to be cheerful – we are still in 3rd place! We all know that good sides can get results despite not being at their best, and to the Spireites credit, they are still picking up the points. This can only bode well for the future.

Can we keep it up though? I certainly hope so, but the loss of Niven for a month will make things difficult. We have an able replacement in my view in Gaz Davies, and hopefully he will stay fit and take his chance to show Roy Mac exactly what he can do. More positive news arrived in the shape of Jinkin’ Jamal Campbell-Ryce extending his loan for a further month. The winger has proved a real hit with the fans, and there were moments of skill last Saturday that had grown men simply salivating with amazement at some wonderful skill. I for one have never seen anyone like him. Not even the mercurial Kevin Eley came close………only kidding!

At this stage I’m still expecting a mid-table finish, 2004 has been brilliant so far but I expect a rough patch at some time, so lets enjoy it while it lasts and make sure we help the team gather as many points as possible while they are doing well. Barnsley loom, and after last night’s hammering at Man City they will be determined to put things right. The lads must not slack off.
