Home-Brew

Blink and you'll miss it but here is the new beginning of a former Chesterfield based brewery. Brampton Brewery closed in the fifties and was situated inbetween Chatsworth Road and Wheatbridge Road, the building itself lasted until 1984 whereupon it was demolished to be replaced by a B & Q Warehouse.

Chris Radford a former IT employee and ardent Spireite, got together with family and friends involved in the local CAMERA (Campaign for Real Ale) group and an idea was spawned that it would be nice to get the old Brampton Brewery going again. Chris had done his twenty years at work and voluntary redundancy was made available, he decided to take the plunge and cobbled together a group of Local People & Businessmen with an interest in local history and the idea was formed.

The site it currently stands on was the old East Midlands Electricity Board Headquarters further down Chatsworth Road across from the old Brampton Club easy access and just a little walk from the Town.

At the moment this micro-brewery has four cask-conditioned ales for sale to local pubs with some more in the pipeline. "Chesterfield Beer Festival have invited us to do a Festival Special in February & then we will have some seasonal beers on offer. We wanted to get these four right first and then we'll look to bring some more in".

The Beers currently on offer are:

Golden Bud 3.8% light, golden hoppy bitter.

Brampton Best 4.2% Standard Session Beer.

Wasp Nest 5.0% Dark Amber in colour with a Sting in the Tale.

Impy Dark 4.3% A Mild with a chocolate aroma and flavours.

Having witnessed the Masham Phenomenon with Theakston & Black Sheep it was lovely to see a smaller version, a micro-brewery and more importantly a Brewery in Chesterfield with it's history strings still attached.

Thanks Chris & the Team and Compton Street wishes you all the very best.
