I work for a small IT company called Xansa (pron Zansa) who have offices here in Chesterfield. Each year Xansa have a charity that they support throughout the year with various fund raising activities. This year they asked us (their employees) to nominate charities so they could select one to support. Only 6 charities were nominated, so Xansa decided we could support them all.
The six charities have been split into three groups of two and each of them given three months of the year dedicated to their fund raising. Those of us that nominated the charities are leading the fund raising activities.
I nominated the Derbyshire Autism Support Group as my son was diagnosed as mid spectrum Autistic last September (he's now four). The DASG help those affected by Autism in a variety of ways:
support group meetings,
advice and information,
family events,
social skills events,
sitting and befriending services
I have been partnered with a colleague in Glasgow (Ross) who has nominated Ronald McDonald House; they give accommodation to parents near to a hospital when their child is ill in that hospital. Ross nominated this charity because his twin daughters were born with a throat defect and had to spend some time in hospital for treatment as soon as they were born.
Any money that Ross and I raise will be split equally between these two charities and Xansa will match funding for most events. We are organising activities that will occur at work - raffles, competitions and possibly a car wash - but I also wanted to do something a bit different. Being an ardent Spireite I contacted Phil Tooley at CFC to see if there was anything the club could do to help.
Phil kindly invited me to the Volunteers Meeting on the 27th February. The members of this meeting were all enthusiastic and good enough to listen patiently whilst I presented my request for help from the Club. As a result of this meeting I intend to book a stall at the CFC Gala Day on Sunday 30th July.
I think it is a testament to the Club that they have their own financial worries but are still keen to actively support charitable causes in our area.
We all love CFC and support them at matches, but there are people behind the scenes who give up their time to organise events to raise money for our Club. Make their efforts worthwhile - please make sure you attend the Gala Day and give both the Club and all the charity stalls there your support.
